attack hits Pentagon computers
The Defense Department took as many as 1,500 computers off line because
of
a cyber attack, Pentagon officials said Thursday.
Locking
down laptops before it's too late
Within the past year, the Veterans Administration lost a laptop holding
information on 26.5 million individuals, the Internal Revenue Service
lost or misplaced 500 laptops, and Boeing reported the theft of a
laptop with files that contained Social Security numbers for more
than 300,000 of its past and present employees.

Computer users have been warned of the dangers of using wi-fi hotspots
after it emerged that cyber-criminals are targeting the networks in
café chains including Starbucks.

sites defaced in new hacking spree
New Zealand websites have again been hit by Turkish hackers. This
time someone called “crackers_child” attacked around twenty
sites hosted by Digital Network Ltd, taking advantage of programs,
files and folders installed with insecure permissions, according to
manager Warren Sanders.

security makes top 10 list of child health concerns
are increasingly concerned about the safety of the Internet, according
to a new survey from a Michigan children's hospital. C.S. Mott Children's
Hospital recently conducted its National Poll on Children's Health,
and most of the results look familiar: smoking tops the list, with
40 percent of respondents labeling it as a "big problem,"
with drug abuse following close behind with 39 percent. But Internet
safety is also on the minds of US parents, with 26 percent calling
it a big problem.

The search giant has now pulled the ads, which linked to legitimate

Charged Over AOL Database Hacks
A seventeen year old living in New York as been changed with computer
tampering, computer trespass, and criminal possession of computer
materials, among other things. He allegedly broke into AOL networks,
and the databases that contained vital customer information, and infected
them with a malicious script that transferred the information to his
computer.

Percent of Security Executives Concerned About Impact of Payment Card
Data Loss
Qualys, Inc., the leading provider of on demand security risk and
compliance management solutions, today announced that 74 percent of
European senior security executives see the impact of payment card
loss on brand reputation as their biggest concern. In addition, the
majority of European professionals – over 90 percent –
are already preparing for deperimeterization.
